Climate Change and the future

Hurumanu: Climate Change and the future

Aim; To look at the different ways we can prevent climate change in the future

What places will be effected?
Beaches, peoples homes, close to the coast pacific islands,
people close to the coast

What else do we need to think about?
Finding more efficient ways to improve our  daily lives because if we dont then we could release a lot more green house gasses which we dont want.

What other places around NZ will be affected?

What does this do to our drinking water?
It will ad sea water to our clean water which could badly affect us.

What are the main concerns?
  1.

What can we do?
  1.  Use public transport
  2.   Use solar efficient cars
  3. Less greenhouse gasses
  4. Not use so much technological
  5.

What is the one, silver bullet solution?

What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
  1.
  2.

What are 3 others you can think of?
  1.

  2.
Activities:

Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint explained

Dwelling
Water
Recreation
Heating and cooling
Electricity
Transportation
Food
Waste
Air Travel
Consumption

Colour 1: for actions they are already doing
Colour 2: for actions that they pledge to undertake in the future

Ecological Handprint The Ecological handprint builds on the concepts from the Carbon Footprint. We will look at the positive actions of:

  1. Transportation
  2. Community
  3. Consumption
  4. Water
  5. Food
  6. Home
  7. Waste

1 Colour: For each action you are already doing
2 Colour: For each action you would like to do in the future

    The green house affect

    The greenhouse effect

    Materials

    1. 1 plastic bottle
    2. 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda and Citric Acid
    3. 1 heat lamp
    4. 1 Thermometer
    5. 100 ml of water
    6. 1 rubber bun

    Steps:
    1. Collect 2 bottles, 2 lamps and 2 thermometers from the teacher.
    2. set up bottles and lamps beside a powerpoint on a flat surface.
    3. Pour 100mls of water and baking soda mixture into one of the bottles.
    4. Start to record your findings taken from both thermometers. these must be every 5 mins.

    1. 4 dishes
    2. 2 sticks
    3. sellotape
    4.   pin
    5.   pencil

    3.   Pin it to the ruber on the pencil.
    4.   Them go out side with your Anemometer.
    5.

    Groups size: 5
    Roles:
    • Timekeeper
    • Counter
    • Recorder
    • Anemometer Manager
    • Wind Manager
    1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
    2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
    3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

    FINDINGS

    • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
    • You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

Place name on school grounds                                    Number of Spins in 15 seconds

    Bread
Green and whiteThe bread went greenish whiteThe bread changed green and white .

    • Hypothesis: I think that banana will rot the fastest because when it is left outside of its skin it is open to carbon dioxide which when food is left out it can be contaminated by flies and by diseases that are in the air from sick people or even from small bugs that are out and around us. The banana will then become black ,really soft , moldy and even can have flies in/ hovering/outside of it.The reason that i think it will rot first is because bananas are really soft and has things in it which can rot fast and can not preserve it.

    Drama

Throughout the week we have been learning about slam poems.
We watched a slam poem by two girls. Later after that we had to write our own slam poem, me and belle made open about sexuality. We wrote about sexuality because a lot of people are being judged about there sexuality. I think that this is an important think to make a poem about it because most of this generation have changed also a a lot of people are being judged because they either like another gender or want to be another gender. I feel that people that are trans, gay, bisexual or lesbian are special no one should judge them because they are special.

Here is a slam poem example...

Here is mine and belles slam poem
